EMV stands for Europay MasterCard Visa, the global standard for chip-based transactions. It is a joint effort between Europay MasterCard and Visa to ensure security and global interoperability so that Visa and MasterCard cards can continue to be accepted everywhere.

Q2 WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF HAVING THE OCBC EMV SMART CHIP CARD?

With the EMV Smart Chip, your card is protected against ‘skimming’ or copying of the magnetic strip contents. You can rest assured when making your purchases as the improved security features will protect your card against fraudulent activities.

Q3 WHAT HAPPENS AT THE POINT OF PAYMENT?

When an EMV Smart Chip card is offered as payment for goods and services, it is inserted into a Smart Card reader. Upon approval, you will sign on the approval charge slip to complete the purchase transaction

Q4 CAN I USE THE OCBC EMV SMART CHIP CARD FOR ONLINE PURCHASES AS WELL AS AT ATMS?

Yes, you can use your EMV Smart Chip card for online purchases and at ATMs. You will require your 6-digit PIN for ATM usage. If you have forgotten your PIN, please call us at 1800 363 3333 or (65) 6363 3333 if you are calling from overseas to request for a new PIN.

Q5 WHICH OCBC CARDS WILL BE ISSUED/ RENEWED WITH AN EMV SMART CHIP CARD?

From 11 March 2008 onwards, all renewal, replacement and new cards issued for the OCBC Platinum MasterCard and OCBC Visa Gold Card will have an EMV Smart Chip. We are migrating the other card types to EMV Smart Chip card in phases and will notify you when your OCBC cards are due for conversion.

Q6 IS THERE ANY EXPIRY DATE ON THE EMV SMART CHIP CARD? WHAT ABOUT THE CHIP?

The expiry date of the credit card/ debit card is shown on the card. The embedded EMV Smart Chip has the same validity period as the card.

Q7 WHAT SHOULD I DO IF MY OCBC EMV SMART CHIP CARD HAS BEEN MISPLACED?
